Wow! What a great game! Just the sort of mind numbing thing that you need after a long day’s work. CloudPhobia is a horizontal shooter game from Japan. With excellent graphics and smooth game play there really isn’t much else you could ask for in a game of this genre.

In CloudPhobia you play a mecha (a kind of flying robot) and its up to you to protect the mothership (hidden off-screen) from enemy ships and mechas until the final showdown with the ultimate boss ship. Fortunately you come equipped with a laser gun with unlimited ammo, a set number of missiles and jet thrusters to help you complete your mission.

CloudPhobia differs from other side-scrolling shooters because as well as making sure that you dodge enemy fire you also have to keep an eye on the mothership (whose health bar is right below yours in the top corner of the screen). If you let too many enemy ships through then the mothership will be destroyed and it’s game over for you, no matter how much health (and time) you have left.

The graphics really are amazing, the animation is first class and the special effects are fantastic. These all combine to make this game such a joy to play. The only problem with this that those of you with older computers may find that the game slows down every now and then. The sound effects and the background music just add to the atmosphere of the game. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

Only a few minor complaints about this game, CloudPhobia offers nothing new in terms of game play and it can become repetitive because there is only one level.

All in all the graphics and entertainment value of CloudPhobia make it definitely worth a download. Enjoy.

This game is, briefly said, "WOW"! I guess I've never seen such beautiful graphics in any 2D freeware game. The animations are smooth, there are motion blurring effects and real-time rendered sprites. Most awesome is the large (really large!) boss, which you encounter at the end of the first - and unfortunately only - stage. The style reminds a lot of the RahXephon series, another mech-based Japanimation series with a style inspired by ancient Greece. The gameplay is pretty simple, yet very challenging: Cruise the skies with your flying mech robot, shoot the enemies to keep them away from the giant mothership that floats behind you. Reach the end of the stage and defeat the boss within the narrow time limit. You have only one weapon and a limited amount of rockets. But you're able to activate an afterburner to race through the clouds in an extremely high velocity. This should be done during any calm period to beat the stage in time. Beginners can change the collision detection and other features to make the game easier but then there will be no replay recorded. This game makes the player scream for more - I pretty much hope that there will be a large version or sequel!

Awesome game. I love shoot 'em up games and this would be my favorite fanmade one.
