It’s a game called Tetris. I won’t bore you with the details, as I’m sure you’ve played it before. Well, actually, it’s a variation of Tetris. In this version, you get one block at a time and you have to match three of the same block colour. If the screen fills up, then it’s game over. The hard part is, you are playing two simultaneous games, one which goes up and one which goes down.

So, the idea of a simple block matching game has been turned on its head, and left on its feet at the same time and the challenge is that you control both blocks (the falling and the rising ones) with the same controls. Unfortunately, the colours of said blocks are not the same. You are, in actual fact, playing two completely different games at the same time, so if one screen has a great move, the other might be completely counter-intuitive which would hamper your game play.

Needless to say, this game is a tricky one. One which requires not only simple hand-eye coordination, but timing, judgement and a great deal of luck. Basically it is the same as Tetris, except that you need to keep one of your eyeballs upside-down in order to keep track of the games you are playing.

There are bonuses and combos and high scores to beat here and that’s a major draw of DUOtris. What could have been a shallow experience proves not to be just a flashy gimmick, wrapped in fluorescent neon graphics and presented with a thumping techno soundtrack, but a wholly enjoyable and complete game.
