Hairy Harry

Overview

Hairy Harry offers a quirky take on beach volleyball with one unexpectedly deep feature that becomes its defining characteristic. While the core gameplay provides basic sports action, the game's standout hair customization system steals the spotlight to such an extent that players may find themselves more engaged with styling than spiking. Early impressions suggest this creative tool delivers impressive flexibility, though it risks overshadowing the volleyball experience it was designed to complement.

The Real Star: Hair Customization

The game's undeniable highlight is its remarkably detailed hair creation system. Players can meticulously design their character's appearance through RGB sliders that control hair type, hair color, and body color, allowing for near-infinite visual combinations. This level of specificity transforms character creation from a simple pre-game step into its own creative playground. For those craving even more options, an optional custom hair builder download expands the possibilities further, letting players craft entirely new hairstyles beyond the base offerings.

With this, you can custom design your Harry by changing its hair type, hair colour and body colour. The variations are controlled by Red, Green, Blue colour shifters allowing for almost complete specificity.

Gameplay in the Shadow

While technically a volleyball title featuring LAN and two-player support across various beach themes, the actual sports mechanics take a backseat to the customization suite. The volleyball gameplay functions adequately but lacks depth to sustain interest long-term, especially when compared to the creative possibilities of the hair designer. This imbalance creates an unusual dynamic where players might spend more time crafting their ideal Harry than actually competing on the court. The customization proves so engaging that it inadvertently highlights the relative simplicity of the core sports experience.

Brilliant hair customization overshadows shallow volleyball gameplay

In this beach volleyball game, you play as a Harry and surprisingly enough, this Harry has hair. The best thing? You decide what type and colour it is! That's right, this small and simple game hides an interesting feature or two - namely an extremely flexible hair creator. With this, you can custom design your Harry by changing its hair type, hair colour and body colour. The variations are controlled by Red, Green, Blue colour shifters allowing for almost complete specificity. If that's not enough - keeping in mind the various themes and either two-player or LAN support - then there is also a custom hair builder (as an optional extra download) with which you can design new types of hair. For a volleyball game, the developers have really outdone themselves with all that can be done here. Its drawback is all the customisation can become more entertaining than the game itself.
