Overview

Airdoo presents a quirky twist on marble-based physics puzzles by placing players in a first-person buggy with a tractor beam. Early impressions suggest an inventive concept that blends vehicular maneuvering with collision-based scoring mechanics. While the execution shows promise with its escalating challenge and offbeat charm, the experience feels more like a prototype than a fully realized game. It's a curious experiment that offers fleeting moments of excitement wrapped in unpolished packaging, leaving players intrigued but ultimately wanting more substance.

Novel Mechanics with Room to Grow

The core gameplay loop offers a fresh take on marble collision concepts. Players pilot a small vehicle equipped with a front-mounted tractor beam, using it to capture colored spheres and launch them at matching targets. The challenge lies in navigating increasingly chaotic arenas while avoiding direct contact with the marbles, which steadily depletes your limited time. This creates tense moments where strategic positioning becomes crucial for survival.

It's quirky and offbeat, not a complete game, but certainly not a write-off. Worth a look.

As levels progress, the simple color-matching premise evolves into a dangerous dance. Blue spheres must collide with other blue targets, creating chain reactions that clear the arena while your buggy dodges ricocheting projectiles. The rising difficulty curve transforms the initially straightforward mechanics into a genuinely challenging test of precision driving and quick aiming. This escalation provides satisfying moments where successful multi-ball collisions deliver a genuine thrill, though these highlights are somewhat rare.

Technical Presentation and Scope

Where Airdoo stumbles is in its technical execution and limited content. The minimalistic presentation lacks visual polish, with basic environments and functional but uninspired effects. While this simplicity doesn't hinder gameplay, it contributes to the overall impression of an unfinished project rather than a complete experience. The short playtime further emphasizes this limitation, with most content being exhausted relatively quickly.

The vehicle handling also presents a mixed experience. While the tractor beam mechanic functions adequately for grabbing and launching spheres, the buggy's movement lacks the precise responsiveness needed for high-stakes evasion during later levels. This occasionally leads to frustration when time drains from seemingly unavoidable collisions, especially when the arena becomes crowded with bouncing spheres.

In a game which seems to be inspired by marbles - if it was played in a first person perspective. The idea is, in your little cart you select a ball, aim and launch it at others. Successfully bouncing balls off each other increases your score. To get an idea of what its like, imagine the recently reviewedMarble++except instead of using the mouse to select balls, you drive a buggy around with a tractorbeam on the front. With this beam, you suck a ball towards yourself and drive around before releasing it with the goal of clicking two or more balls together. The idea is to clear the screen, made difficult by the way certain balls can only 'pop' other balls, blue goes with blue, for example. While its short and not extremely polished, it is somewhat exciting. Each direct touch of a ball on you, drains your time and driving around becomes more and more dangerous as the levels rise. It's quirky and offbeat, not a complete game, but certainly not a write-off. Worth a look.
