Overview

Early impressions of A Game With A Kitty 2: Darkside Adventures suggest a faithful sequel that retains the charm of its predecessor while introducing new mechanics. Players step into the shoes of the Arch Chancellor, accompanied by the persistent King, on a quest to recover a princess's lost crown. The experience blends platforming, puzzle-solving, and shooting into a cohesive adventure, though its reliance on familiar formulas may limit surprises for returning fans. Initial feedback highlights a game that feels polished in presentation but occasionally struggles with control acclimation.

Sharpened Platforming with a Side of Quirk

Darkside Adventures delivers precisely what fans of the original AGWaK would expect: tight platforming fundamentals wrapped in witty dialogue and vibrant visuals. The Arch Chancellor's journey through varied environments maintains a brisk pace, with jumping sequences and projectile-based combat forming the core of the action. Clever signposting throughout the levels gently introduces new mechanics, ensuring players gradually master abilities without overwhelming tutorials. This thoughtful design creates a smooth learning curve that respects both newcomers and series veterans.

Visually, the sequel stands out with its distinctive art direction, carrying forward the original's colorful and expressive aesthetic. Character animations inject personality into every interaction, particularly in the dynamic between the Arch Chancellor and his regal shadow. The writing shines through playful exchanges and situational humor, though the overarching narrative—centered on the crown hunt—remains straightforward. It's a world where gameplay takes clear precedence over deep storytelling, focusing instead on delivering consistent platforming thrills.

Controls seem a little strange at first, but soon become natural with helpful signs explaining new abilities along the way.

Does the acronym AGWaK make any sense to you? How about in its unabbreviated form:A Game With a Kitty? In this sequel, you take control of the Arch Chancellor as he is followed around by the king while you attempt to find the princesses lost crown. Obviously it wouldn't be much of a game is that was all you had to do, so be prepared for lots of jumping, collecting and shooting along the way with a little bit of puzzling thrown into the mix. The game is as sharp as the original with clever dialogue, great visuals and a somewhat present storyline to help you continue playing. At first the controls seem a little strange, but soon they become natural and helpful signs, spread out, explain how to use new abilities. On the whole, this will appeal to original fans of AGWaK and to platform gamers as a whole.
