Overview

Every Extend emerges as a uniquely captivating Japanese shoot 'em up that completely reimagines the genre by replacing traditional shooting mechanics with explosive chain reactions. This innovative approach creates a distinct gameplay rhythm where patience and precision replace rapid-fire aggression. While lacking narrative depth, the game compensates with intensely satisfying core mechanics that transform each brief session into a strategic puzzle. The focus remains squarely on mastering the art of triggering ever-larger explosions within compact, time-limited stages.

This is one of the best Japanese shoot 'em ups ever... It will surprise you with the originality of its gameplay and its ability to remain fun while on the quest for bigger chains and higher scores.

Explosive Chain Reaction Mechanics

The genius of Every Extend lies in its fundamental reimagining of shooter mechanics. Instead of firing projectiles, players control a cluster of bombs that must be strategically detonated near enemy formations. The true magic unfolds when these initial explosions trigger cascading chain reactions, creating mesmerizing displays of destruction where a single well-timed detonation can wipe entire screens of enemies. This transforms each level into a spatial puzzle where positioning and timing become paramount.

Success requires mastering the delicate balance between risk and reward. Detonating too early yields minimal chains, while waiting too long risks enemy collisions. The euphoria of watching explosions ripple through intricate enemy patterns creates a unique satisfaction distinct from traditional shooters. Each massive chain reaction feels like solving an elegant physics puzzle, rewarding players with bonus bombs and extended survival time that enables progression to challenging boss encounters.

Precision Gameplay in Compact Sessions

Every Extend embraces brevity as a design virtue rather than a limitation. With rounds capped at just two and a half minutes, the game delivers concentrated bursts of strategic gameplay that respect players' time. This condensed format creates tremendous tension as the clock constantly pressures decisions, turning each moment into a high-stakes calculation. The short duration also encourages repeated attempts, as mastering a level's enemy patterns becomes essential for maximizing chain potential.

The scoring system brilliantly complements this structure by rewarding players with additional bombs for achieving progressively larger chains and reaching score thresholds. This creates a compelling risk-reward dynamic where players must constantly decide between conservative survival tactics and ambitious chain attempts that could yield greater resources. The compact design ensures that even failed runs provide valuable insights into enemy behaviors and explosion physics, making every session feel purposeful.

I remember playing this game years ago (just over two years ago, to be slightly more precise) and for some reason, nothing happened. I played it, loved it and... nothing happened. It disappeared and I never did write a review on it. Shame on me, for this is one of the best Japanese shoot 'em ups ever. Completely removing the idea of shooting, this game centers on exploding. You are a series of bombs, your enemies float around you in patters, you explode and hopefully cause glorious chain reactions. If you blow up near an enemy, it explodes - blowing up any enemies near it... etc. etc. allowing you incredible chain reactions. Among picking up the bonuses (which aid in the accumulation of more lives/"bombs") you will be awarded a new bomb for each chain higher than the last and also at certain score points. With this, hopefully you can survive into the boss battle at the end of the round. Clocking in at a maximum time limit of 2mins 30sec, the game won't draw you in with its impressive storyline. It will surprise you with the originality of its gameplay and its ability to remain fun while on the quest for bigger chains and higher scores.
